Filmed over four years and using archival footage and photographs of more than a century ago, the film chronicles the stories of three families as they migrate from the hinterland in search of employment, education and opportunity.
The stories of the three migrating families are set against a backdrop of a nation that went from colony to republic; that witnessed the violence and migration of partition; that experienced state repression under the emergency and opening of the economy under liberalisation; a nation that now seems on the threshold of defining itself on the basis of religion.
